"Zipuragi" Jung Woo-sung "When I was a teenager who came out as a Body in the world, I was desperate."
Actor Jung Woo-sung has changed 180 degrees: perfect charisma is a dull, light-spoken plan, a lukewarm gesture. There is no Jung Woo-sung we knew in the movie The Animals We Want to Hold the Jeep (hereinafter referred to as Jeep). So I wondered more. What happened to Jung Woo-sung?
The straw depicted a crime scene of ordinary humans planning the worst of the worst to take the money bag, the last chance of life. The film captures the worst Choices and the results of extremely ordinary people, such as the most shaken, civil servants, and housewives whose families have collapsed, to escape from desperate situations with sophisticated touch. Jung Woo-sung played the role of Tai-Young, an immigration officer who fell into the swamp of Hantang because of his lover who left a large amount of debt in his future.
“I was thinking about where and how to hit it because it’s not a Tae-Young-led movie. I don’t think I’m the one who’s like Tae-Young, but I’m not the one who’s evil. I wanted to make some bitter compassion. So I wanted to be a character that caused a laugh by highlighting the loopholes in Tae-Young, and that loophole seems to be a point to take a break in the story. There are so many desperate stories going on, that Tae-Young is not very personal and family-like, it was a bit of a light character.”
Tae-Young is passive and indecisive - a strong but not strong figure, too. As director Kim Yong-hoon said, "It was fun to get away from the fixed image of Jung Woo-sung that the public thinks." The new discovery of Jung Woo-sung, which pops out of this movie, is also a point of observation.
“The director was embarrassed at the first shoot, and when Tae-Young was talking to Yeon-hee in the taxi, how embarrassed he was when Jung Woo-sung was just fussing. I was more brave because he was so funny. I guess I was smug. I had expectations or preconceptions. So I designed the Tae-Young with more confidence and calculated it seriously in the overall balance. It was the completion of this character that I was not alone in the movie, but to keep Tae-Young's mission faithful, and if I did that, I'm satisfied enough."
Tai-Young, who examines the stay of travelers as an immigration officer, opens a new life for some, but his life is frustrating. The huge debts that must be paid back immediately break down and suppress his daily life. To his tired, limp tie and old, crumpled shirt, Tae-Young was talking about a desperate story with his whole Body.
“Tae-Young didn’t need makeup, she doesn’t do makeup well, but she’s not going to make it anymore, and she’s caught up in it, and she’s not going to be able to communicate her feelings because of her awkward makeup. If you need a makeup character, it is right to express the human figure that is usually suitable for your age. Especially, in your 40s, it is a big makeup to show the traces of life you have experienced. So I don’t make up for makeup, because I think it’s wise to admit and accept the time you’ve been through rather than try to win time. I’m so frustrated in my time in the shop, but I’m not bothered to be honest (laughing).”
Above all, it is the meeting of Jung Woo-sung and Jeon Do-yeon, two Actors called icons of the times, which attract the expectation of the preliminary audience. Jung Woo-sung and Jeon Do-yeon, who debuted as youth stars in the 90s and shook up the contemporary Korean film industry, met their first co-work through 'Zipuragi'. Jung Woo-sung expressed his affection, saying, "It was a work that found a good colleague named Jeon Do-yeon."
“I think we have respect, but I never told you this, but the roles that Mr. Do-yeon (I) played were a little heavy. If you continue to overcome such pain and trials, Actor itself is crushed. I had a wish as a colleague that Do-yeon would like to throw away some of the wounds and burdens he received from playing the characters of the past in this movie, and if I have a chance, I would like to be with him again.”
Tae-Young, who planned a bath, saying, 'Do you have money that does not smell in the world?' Eventually, Choices of a lifetime. Thanks to the witty portrayal of the ironic situation, the audience is forced to form a consensus on the Choices and feelings of Tae-Young. Jung Woo-sung explained the desperate environment of Tae-Young and recalled his childhood.
“I don’t have ‘Hantangism’. Of course, there was a desperate time. I dropped out as a teenager and went out to Body without anything. I did a part-time job, modeled, and couldn’t get paid when I didn’t know where to stand, and I nevertheless had a vague dream. I don’t think I ever wanted to make money, but I don’t think I can tell you easily because the desperation of each person is different, but I think there is a certain sense of pride when I believe in myself. It was hard then, but I didn’t have to blame it for any other comparison, because it’s not entirely acceptable and I can’t move on.”
The straw, which was confirmed to be released on February 19, has recently been on the slope. He was awarded the 49th Rotterdam International Film Festival Jury Award and was officially invited to the 34th Swiss Freebourg International Film Festival and was recognized for his work. Now, the situation is waiting for Choices of domestic audiences. Jung Woo-sung called for expectation, saying it is "a fun and dense work."
“I’ve been faithful to the title since the scenario, and it’s focused on people who are more desperate than the Blow-Up surrounding the money bag. When I see a movie, I do not explain my story, but it shows me densely. If we were going to make a more sensational, more easy-to-look movie, we could have focused on the struggle of humans obsessed with Blow-Up, but the 'Zippur' shows the story in a dense way. That’s a very good composition, please look forward to it.”
