"We have begun disciplinary proceedings against Will Smyths for violating Academi's code of conduct, including inappropriate physical contact or threatening behavior, undermining the integrity of Academi," the Academi awards ceremony said in a statement Thursday.
"At the next board meeting on April 18, Academi can take disciplinary action, including expulsion or other sanctions allowed by internal regulations and behavioral standards," he added. Academi members are set to issue disciplinary action against Will Smyths under the Academi internal code as well as California law; all of this process is expected to take weeks.
"At the 94th Academy Awards, Will Smyths' actions were a very shocking and traumatizing event, with Fade to Black in person and Fade to Black on TV," said Academi. "I apologize for the assault on stage, and I apologize to the candidates, guests and viewers who attended."
"The situation unfolded in a way we didn't expect; I want to make it clear that (after the assault) Will Smyths had asked him to leave the scene but was rejected. However, we acknowledge that we could deal with the situation differently. "
The main character of 'Ji Ai Jane' joked about shaving. Will Smyths climbed onto the stage and slapped Cristiano Ronaldo Rock on the cheek as Cristiano Ronaldo Rock mentioned his wife. Will Smyths, who later sat down, was furious, shouting, "Don't put my wife's name on your mouth." Later, he won the Best Actor award for the film "King Richard", but was in danger of being stripped of the award for the assault.
When controversial, Will Smyths said: "Violence is poisonous and destructive in any form. My actions at the Academi Awards last night are unacceptable and inexcusable," he said, adding: "I would like to publicly apologise to Cristiano Ronaldo Rock. I crossed the line and I was wrong," he apologized.
