Lee Hyun-i: Just how much does her husband at a major corporation earn... 13 million won for a three-week camp in the U.S. for their son
Former model and TV personality Lee Hyun-i shared the story behind sending her elementary school-aged son to a gifted camp in the U.S., along with her candid views on education.
On the 6th, a video titled “Did Lee Hyun-yi’s Son Get Accepted to a U.S. Gifted Camp? Everything About the Johns Hopkins CTY English Camp I Found Through My Own Research” was posted on the YouTube channel “Working Mom Lee Hyun-yi.”
In the video, Lee Hyun-yi announced that her eldest son, Yoonseo, will be participating in the CTY (Center for Talented Youth) summer camp, a gifted education program affiliated with Johns Hopkins University in the U.S.
Her husband, Hong Seong-gi, explained, “The most important thing is his own determination.” He added, “Yoonseo has always loved reading. After reading a book about Elon Musk, he told us he wanted to experience boarding school life in the U.S. starting in the early elementary grades."
The couple also shared detailed insights into the camp application process. They explained that they had to go through a series of steps, from taking the entrance exam to submitting various health records and vaccination documents, as well as completing insurance-related procedures.
Above all, the cost drew the most attention. Hong Seong-gi said, “The three-week program costs about 13 million won,” adding, “At first, I thought it was expensive, but even just calculating the cost of local accommodation in the U.S. for the same period came to over 10 million won.”
He added, “Room and board are provided, and the program includes not only classes but also projects, physical education, and various exchange activities.”
Lee Hyun-i also expressed her satisfaction with the program, saying, “It’s not just about studying on weekdays. We write reports, work on team projects, and have PE classes.”
When the production team asked if she expected her English skills to improve, Lee Hyun-yi replied with a laugh, “Since we’re spending that much money to send her, I can’t help but have expectations.”
However, she emphasized, “Actually, it’s okay even if her English doesn’t improve significantly,” adding, “I hope this becomes an opportunity to broaden Yoonseo’s horizons. Just meeting different friends and experiencing a new environment is meaningful in itself.”
In particular, Lee Hyun-yi explained that the experience of finding personal motivation is more important than short-term academic improvement, resonating with many parents.
Meanwhile, Lee Hyun-yi recently appeared on MBN’s “Sokpulli Show Dongchimi” and sparked buzz by revealing that she and her husband, Hong Sung-ki, manage their finances separately. At the time, she confessed, “Like many couples these days, we manage our finances strictly separately,” adding, “We don’t even disclose our incomes to each other.” Her confession that they maintain their marriage by managing their respective assets independently drew significant attention.
