HoYeon Jung was invited as a squid Game to the United States of America Film Institute (AFI) awards ceremony on the 12th (local time). Many foreign media reported on the atmosphere of the AFI awards ceremony.
The 22nd AFI Awards were “everything about one artist community,” as AFI CEO Bob Gazelle said. On December 8, last year, AFI announced the winners, including 10 films, 10 TV programs, and a special award for three works outside AFI's traditional United States of America narrative work.
In the film category, 'Coda', 'Don Look Up', 'King Richard', 'Ricorish Pizza', 'Nightmare Ally', 'The Power City of London the Dog', 'Tick, Tick Boom', 'The Tragedy of Macbeth' and 'West Side Story' were selected. The three special awards were 'Belfast', 'Squid Game' and 'Summer City of London Soul'.
“There were 400 eligible TV programs to consider, and streaming and theater simultaneous releases made it even more difficult to distinguish between movies and TV,” said Rich Frank, a TV judge.
Meanwhile, the AFI awards ceremony has been held since 2000; the winning entries are selected by a jury of film industry workers, journalists, academics and AFI directors. “We have enriched the culture and art of United States of America and have selected winners based on works that inspired both the audience and artists,” AFI said.
