After the general opening ten years ago, JTBC tried to inform the channel through dramas, and of course, in the terrestrial-oriented broadcasting market, the strategy was often a water swelling in the bottom of the poison. It was when no one tried to watch the drama of the general episode.
In those days, JTBC showed fresh dramas that were hard to see on the terrestrial.
This was the case with Paddam Paddam and her heartbeat, where Noh Hee-kyung experimented with mixing fantasy elements into stories.
However, the distinctive color of JTBC drama was clearly revealed through <Cheongdam-dong live> and
Although typical of sitcoms and popular plays, both works had keen insights into Korea's class society. The success of the two works has created a drama that has different messages and fun from terrestrial broadcasting, and the faces of the writers who are proud of it are also outstanding. <Cheongdam-dong Live> was written by Park Hae-young, author of tvN <Oh Hae Young> and <My Uncle> before the popularity. <Wife's Qualification> was a well-made drama by director Ahn Pan-seok and Some Like It Hot writer Combi who had already cynical scalpels in Korean capitalist society with <Aunt>.
Since then, JTBC will show the fun and artistic value of drama drama and works that catch two rabbits at the same time through <Secret Affair> and <Yuna Street> in 2014.
<Secret Affair> by Ahn Pan-seok and Some Like It Hot Cottage Combi criticizes the elegant and shallow Korean social high class in the background of the classical market with actors Kim Hee-ae and young children.
On the other hand, JTBC dramas in 2021, which marks the 10th anniversary of its opening, have long been weak. Perhaps after the great hit of the world of couples in 2020, such a thin and absurd work as Elegant Friends, Number of Cases, and Private Life showed such signs. As an alternative, he started the <The Hershey Company> in late 2020 and showed the leading dramas of famous stars such as Cho Seung-woo, Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Myung-min including Hwang Jung-min. But most of the viewers’ reactions started with cynicism and ended with a blind eye. Only the Monster starring Shin Ha-gyun and Yeo Jin-gu hit the ball in public.
What has changed? JTBC dramas still try to show social messages through
However, various efforts of JTBC drama converge to the meaningless focus of 'funny'. Once in 2021, JTBC dramas try to wrap up too pretty, go too far to show messages, or immerse themselves in too artistic values. So I miss the basics of the drama, the fun of the story that goes on all the time, of course, I missed the fun, but I could not give up PPL in the meantime.
In fact, drama is the realm of enter, not art, CF, or enlightenment; it is attractive enough that these other elements in the enter go up to toppings. However, if the enter is thrown and other elements are stocked, the drama is not meaningful in the box office mall compared to the production cost. Such a video is better to be applauded by a small number of enthusiasts as an art movie in a small opening, or to write in a CF full of visual beauty. Of course, in the case of The Hershey Company, it can be used as a special lecture on employment at the university. Avoid a boss who is so talkative after drinking himself in self-pity, and unfortunately many characters in JTBC dramas are self-pitying. It is by no means the box office sense of 2021.
Perhaps <Monster> was not the only JTBC drama in 2021 that properly mixed the fun of enter and other visual aesthetic elements. In the case of Monster, the audience rating was saved as expected, and the maniac group was formed. <Law School> did not have the most unique emotion of JTBC drama in 2021. However, <Law School>, which was just faithful to the story and reversal, had the highest audience rating among JTBC dramas this year.
Unfortunately, JTBC dramas seem lost in many ways. I doubt that the two-hour scenario idea that would be made personally into a movie was produced in a boring series of 16 episodes or less as it flowed into JTBC after the success of Sky Castle. If not, would not it be difficult to create 12 or 16 episodes of dramas that are so bizarrely increasing like a peacock?
Moreover, with the success of Netflix original Korean drama, JTBC drama has begun to be recognized as an old sensibility rather than a fresh and realistic drama. JTBC, which had the slogan of "drama restaurant in 2020," has Baek Jong-won, who will save the alley restaurant, but it seems that it is not easy to save the shabby drama restaurant as of 2021. However, it seems that it is necessary to have a drama that can face viewers, not a story that looks down on viewers or a story that sits in a room and mumbles.
