Radio Star' Gim Gu-ra was involved in a controversy over his broadcasting attitude as he played a half-word and a smack to Japan women's national volleyball team players including Kim Yeon-koung.
MBC entertainment Radio Star' broadcasted on September 22 featured Kim Yeon-koung, Kim Soo-ji, Yang Hyo-jin, Park Jung-a, Pyo Seung-ju and Jung Yoon, the main characters of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Japan women's national volleyball team semi-finals.
The expectation for Radio Star was bigger than ever on the news that Japan women's national volleyball team players who gave a hot impression to the tired people with COVID-19 appeared as many as six.
But the audience reaction was cold: Gim Gu-ra mixed the anti-words and honorifics with the players throughout the broadcast, and he was also uncomfortable with the fact that he was already pointed out several times.
Immediately after the broadcast, the Radio Star' viewer bulletin board was crowded with Protests such as "Gim Gu-ra is uncomfortable with broadcasting attitude", "Use honorific words to the guest", "When should I endure this attitude" and "I do not want to be a bit of a stick". Online communities, SNS, etc., are also responding to the attitude of Gim Gu-ra.
This is not the first time Gim Gu-ra's broadcast attitude has been criticised. The comedian Nam Hee-seok publicly shot Gim Gu-ra's broadcast attitude on Facebook last July, saying that there are some juniors who were hurt by it. At the time, the production team of Radio Star said, "Gim Gu-ra is not a rude MC."
In some cases, the guests who appeared in Radio Star pointed out his attitude. Singer Lee Seung-hwan showed an uncomfortable feeling when Gim Gu-ra said, "I often see Lee Seung-hwan brother." The comedian Lee Jin-ho responded with the same smacking to Gim Gu-ra, who was smacking at him.
Among those who called for the improvement of Gim Gu-ra's attitude is his son Gri (Kim Dong-hyun). Grimm also asked Gim Gu-ra to reduce the quality of the broadcast on YouTube channel 'Grigura' earlier last year.
