The National Federation of Democratic Trade Unions (KCTU) has been embroiled in an untimely Twitter Inc controversy. KCTU posted a post criticizing the revision of the Minimum wage expansion plan that passed the National Assembly recently, and attached a congratulatory message sent by President Moon Jae-in to singer BTS. Online, "What does BTS and Minimum wage have to do with it?"
The first and second parties in the House of Representatives, the Democratic Party of Korea and the Liberty Korea Party, led by some amendments to the Minimum Wage Act, were decided. The amendment includes a portion of regular bonuses and benefits in the range of Minimum waage inclusion.
KCTU, which has maintained its firm opposition, immediately protested, saying, "It is a bad thing that ignores the reality of workers." KCTU mentioned the achievement of the Minimum wage of 10,000 won in 2020, which President Moon promised in the 19th presidential election, on the official Twitter Inc account, saying, "Why did you cut the Minimum wage? Where did the Minimum wage pledge of 10,000 won go? "What is the difference between the participatory government of President Roh Moo-hyun, which produced irregular workers," he wrote. “Why did the change in the disadvantages of the employment rules that Park Geun-hye (former president) did not do become legal?” he said, adding that he was criticizing the Moon Jae-in administration on the day.
The controversy erupted in the attached photo, not the text of the post. KCTU Twitter Inc. attached an official celebration to BTS and fan club Ami to the post in commemoration of President Moon's rise to No. 1 on BTS' Billboard 200, the main chart of the US Billboard.
Twitter Inc.lian, who identified himself as a KCTU member, protested to KCTU, saying that there is room for criticism that the KCTU post criticized President Moon as being indifferent to the Minimum wage and only care about certain singers. “It’s right to set these tweets apart from President Moon’s personal account,” he said. “Isn’t the president supposed to send a harmony when he sends the celebration? Do you interpret it as 'taking a singer and ignoring a worker'? " KCTU Twitter Inc. account dismissed the protest by replying, "There is no such interpretation anywhere in this account."
However, the controversy has continued for four days: on the 31st, social networking services (SNS) and online communities, there was a backlash to the effect that "why do you sow ashes on President Moon's pure celebration intentions?"
KCTU explained that the post was to point out President Moon's lack of interest in the Minimum wage. “I didn’t know there was any backlash online,” a spokesman for KCTU said in a telephone conversation with the company. “There is no protest that came in,” he said. “It seems that President Moon attached the celebration to the post as a representative example of his interest in other places without expressing any position at all when he was dealing with the important bill called the Minimum wage.” This is contrary to the explanation of the official Twitter Inc. account.
Meanwhile, KCTU announced that it will launch a sit-in in front of Cheong Wa Dae and a 1 million-nation signature campaign from next month to scrap the amendment bill for the Minimum wage law.
