"Put your feet on my armrest?"… Female singer sparks controversy for spraying her bare feet on a plane
American country singer Jesse James Decker (38) sparked an online controversy after posting a video of herself spraying a passenger's bare feet on the seat behind her on an airplane. Amidst a flood of criticism regarding her behavior of placing her feet on another passenger's armrest, speculation also emerged that the feet in the video might belong to her husband.
Decker recently posted a video on her Instagram showing herself sitting in an airplane seat and covering her nose with her hand. It turned out that another passenger's bare feet were resting on Decker's armrest. The caption accompanying her video read, "Someone's feet smell terrible on the plane."
Decker then took out a spray can and sprayed the feet. The feet on the armrest immediately disappeared from the screen.
She wrote in the post, "Before you criticize me, let me ask you: What would you have done?"
Many comments sympathized with Decker's response. One user wrote, "If someone acts so casually as to place their dirty feet on another person's armrest, I would spray them too." Another user commented, "Isn't that basic etiquette learned in kindergarten? The parents should be ashamed," adding that they would have done the same thing in the same situation.
On the other hand, some questioned whether the feet in the video actually belonged to a stranger. Speculation suggests they could be the feet of Decker's husband, former NFL player Eric Decker. The couple married in 2013.
When one user remarked, "I hope it is Eric's foot. It is hard to believe if it is someone else's," Decker replied to the effect, "Have you ever seen Eric's feet? His toes are a mess." Other users also responded with comments such as, "Please tell me it is your husband's foot," and "It would have been difficult to do that to a stranger."
However, Decker did not reveal whether the feet in the video belonged to her husband or another passenger. The general sentiment online is that placing one's feet on another passenger's armrest is, in itself, rude.
