AKMU Lee Chan-hyuk's company offers a 4-day workweek and top-notch benefits, but has a unique hiring restriction: "No duplicate surnames allowed" (The Manager)
'Lee Chan-hyuk’s Fountain of Inspiration, Founded After Leaving YG; Four-Day Workweek and Swing Dance Lessons During Working Hours: "A Funnily Weird Company"'
The benefits and unique hiring restrictions of the company founded by AKMU's Lee Chan-hyuk have been revealed.
On the 422nd episode of the MBC variety show *Omniscient Interfering View* (hereinafter *Omniscient*), which aired on October 31, the sibling duo AKMU's Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun appeared as guests.
On this day, following the reveal of the home where the siblings live together, the company they are currently affiliated with was also shown. Both spaces were filled with Lee Chan-hyuk's unique personality, as he had personally designed the interiors. In particular, every corner of the company was filled with portraits of the founder, Lee Chan-hyuk. Upon seeing this on screen, Lee Su-hyun expressed her displeasure, saying, "He's just so narcissistic."
Even the way Lee Chan-hyuk addresses his employees was extraordinary. Instead of using job titles, he reportedly calls his staff "Yeonggam" (old man). Lee Chan-hyuk explained that since his debut, he has frequently been asked where his inspiration comes from, and because he was asked so often, he started calling his staff "Yeonggam" (meaning "inspiration") to imply that it comes from the people around him.
Under "Saemteojang" Lee Chan-hyuk, all employees worked in a horizontal structure. The important thing is that there is an entry restriction stating that "people with the same last name cannot join." Lee Su-hyun said, "Since everyone is named 'X Yeonggam,' it gets confusing when someone with the same last name comes in. Even if there is an incredible talent, it is unfortunate that they cannot join if their last name overlaps." Lee Chan-hyuk added that anyone could join if they changed their last name.
Among the staff, Yoo Yeonggam had been with AKMU since their days at YG Entertainment. He revealed the reason for joining the company, stating, "I felt like I had hit a wall due to the stress of being a third-year office worker. My seniority was piling up, but I felt a thirst for change because the work I was doing didn't significantly change with the passing of the year. I was planning to quit at the end of the year and go on a working holiday, thinking '2025 is my last year of work,' but [it became an inspiration]." He continued, "While organizing the old studio before the current 'Fountain of Inspiration' office was reorganized, I mentioned, 'It seems to get organized quickly because we are cleaning together.' He responded by asking, 'Oh, why? Do you want to do it together?' Just like in a drama. From then on, he rattled off his plans for the next three years, asking, 'The reason we make music is to enjoy life, so wouldn't you like to leave together to find the essence?' I was completely won over by that."
He added, "Even amidst that busy schedule, he carved out time to personally look for real estate listings and took care of my commute and physical condition. It includes support for the security deposit plus monthly rent."
He then disclosed the incredible employee benefits offered by Lee Chan-hyuk's company. Lee Chan-hyuk's employees were also learning swing dance together during working hours. Of course, the company covered all the lesson costs. When the MCs asked, "Do all employees do swing dance? Then do you announce all of this during the interview process?" and "Can't they just say, 'I'd like to skip it'?" Lee Chan-hyuk replied, "We do announce it. You can't skip it. Even if you worked overtime the day before, you must stick to your workout. Because that is how I live, I wanted to share the good things I've gained from living that way."
Lee Chan-hyuk further explained, "I don't think of it as just playing around; I believe that if we want to create something different, we need to create a different lifestyle. It is an investment in that."
Upon hearing the employees say, "We can work out or swing dance together on Tuesdays and then immediately start working from home. We take every Wednesday off. It is a four-day workweek," the MCs marveled, saying, "I would really want to join this company."
The employees stated, "Our ironclad rule is that 'good music comes from a good life.' We do everything together," and surprised everyone by revealing that they had even gone on an overseas volunteer trip to Uganda together. When Lee Young-ja remarked, "It feels a bit like a club," Lee Chan-hyuk affirmed, "We do have a bit of that vibe." The employees described Lee Chan-hyuk's company as "a fun, quirky company, in a good way."
