Actor Im Ho visited Gwangju in his capacity as president of the Baejae High School Alumni Association and issued an official apology for the recent actions of students who mocked the May 18 Democratic Uprising. Accompanied by members of his alma mater’s baseball team, LIm Ho visited Gwangju Jeil High School, bowed his head, and paid his respects at the National May 18 Democratic Memorial Cemetery, conveying his sincere apology.
In his apology statement, LIm Ho expressed deep regret, acknowledging that the school and senior alumni also bear responsibility for failing to prevent the students’ inappropriate behavior. He thanked Gwangju Jeil High School for accepting this visit to apologize and emphasized the importance of educating students on proper values to prevent such incidents from recurring.
This controversy began when some students on the Baejae High School baseball team made inappropriate remarks during a high school baseball tournament game directed at their opponent, Gwangju Jeil High School, that evoked the May 18 Democratization Movement. As public criticism intensified, Baejae High School issued an official apology and traveled to Gwangju in person to repeatedly ask for forgiveness.
LIm Ho, who debuted as a KBS talent in 1993, was recently appointed president of the Baejae High School Alumni Association. With a long-standing interest in baseball, he has deep ties to the baseball community, including serving as the manager of the Crusaders, a celebrity baseball team.
