With the release of the first teaser, "Kim Jangbu" hinted at So Ji Sub's intense transformation, promising to be a "vicariously satisfying drama for dads around the world.
Premiering on June 26 (Friday, June 26), SBS's new Friday night drama "Kim Joo Jung" (written by Nam Dae Joong, directed by Lee Seung Young and Lee So Eun, produced by Studio S and Fantasio) is a "dad universe revenge action" drama in which the "most ordinary" dad in the world turns into the "most dangerous" one to protect his only daughter.
Based on the Naver webtoon of the same name, the film is a collaboration between a male writer who has maximized the charm of characters in "A Great Wish," "30 Days," and "First Ride," and director Lee Seung-young, who has shown his suspenseful directorial skills in "Wonderful World," "Tracer," and "Voice 2," and newcomer Lee So-eun.
The first teaser for "Kim Jang-joo," released on June 1, opens with the sound of shoes ringing in the middle of the night. In a dark atmosphere, Kim Jang-joo (So Soo-sub) opens the door of a mysterious container and enters with a voice that almost screams, "Where are you?", increasing the tension.
This is followed by a quick flashback to his past as an operative for the North-South faction, and a scene of Min-ji's mother in a hospital bed, saying, "I want you to forget everything and be Min-ji's father." The film then switches to a scene in which Mr. Kim is seen as a completely 'doting' father, keeping his daughter Min-ji by his side as she grows from a newborn to a kindergartener to a high school student in uniform.
However, his normal life as an office worker doesn't last long. Min-ji's mom's words, "I want you to be a loved child," are interrupted by Min-ji's cries of "Dad..." and the mood quickly changes. A scene of Min-ji being chased by someone in the rain and Mr. Kim being grabbed by the throat heightens the sense of crisis. "So you're just going to watch like this?" he asks, and then fixes his glasses and awakens in a completely different mood.
"Here comes the most ordinary dad in the world," he says, and the plot twist is revealed. As Mr. Kim says "From now on," revealing his scars and hard muscles through his torn shirt, other dad characters are introduced. Sung Han-soo (Max Hoon) looks determined in a taekwondo uniform, while Park Jin-cheol (Yoon Kyung-ho), dressed in a military uniform, shouts "Rock and Roll!" and fires a bazooka, causing a large explosion.
Kim then explodes with rage, overwhelming his enemies, and the narration adds to the tension: "A human being who lived like a mouse for decades suddenly exploded!" With the warning, "If you touch even a hair on my daughter's head," Sung Hansu unleashes a flying kick, and Park Jin-cheol joins in the action with his kung fu skills, and the "Battle of the Dads" is in full swing.
The mysterious narrative also expands with Joo Kang Chan's (Joo Sang Wook) meaningful smile, Sang Ah's (Son Na Eun) complex expression, and the arrival of Namfa operative Kang Sung (Kim Sung Kyu). The teaser concludes with a "fist of fury ending" in which Mr. Kim defeats Goohan once and for all, leaving a powerful sense of catharsis.
