The ex-boyfriend of broadcaster Park Na Rae, who was accused of handing over the identities of her managers to the police without authorization, has been cleared of charges.
According to a report by Yonhap News Agency on Nov. 31, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul dismissed the charges against Park's ex-boyfriend, A, for violating the Personal Information Protection Act on Nov. 18.
A was accused of suspecting the managers of Park's Yongsan-gu home burglary and providing his name and resident registration number to the police for 'insurance'.
In the non-remand decision, the police said, "It is admitted that Mr. A provided the personal information of the victims (managers) to the investigative agency," but "Mr. A is excusing himself by saying that he 'sought the consent of the victims,' and the victims are avoiding contact with the investigative agency and are not giving statements of damage."
The police added that there is no evidence to support Mr. A's allegations, so even if there is someone who ordered or abetted Mr. A's behavior, he cannot be charged.
Ms. Park reported to police in April last year that tens of millions of won worth of items had been stolen from her Yongsan-gu home.
According to Park's account, police initially suspected an insider, but it was a man in his 30s, an ex-convict unrelated to Park, who was arrested.
The man was sentenced to two years in prison on March 16.
