BTS (BTS) Military service exclusion discussion, inconclusive...Ministry of National Defense "careful"
While group BTS (BTS) received the grand prize at the American Music Awards, attention was focused on whether or not to benefit from military service, Korea Military did not conclude this.
On the 25th, the National Assembly's Korea Military Committee Subcommittee on Legislation discussed the amendment of the Military Service Act, which allows popular culture artists who have promoted the national government to provide Alternative services such as volunteer activities instead of military service.
At the meeting, the pros and cons of the ruling and Opposition parties were tense, and it was reported that they could not reach a conclusion and decided to discuss further after the public debate process.
Some lawmakers said it is reasonable to give them a Military service exception in consideration of the enormous economic ripple effect caused by BTS.
However, it was suggested that the current system that allowed Alternative services to winners of specific art contests at home and abroad was unfair, and that the Military service exception System itself should be eliminated at all.
Among them, the Ministry of National Defense said in a regular briefing that it is necessary to be cautious about the issue.
"Considering these circumstances, it is difficult to choose and need to be cautious to expand the inclusion of art and sports personnel," said Ministry of National Defense spokesman, referring to the trend of declining military resources due to population decline and the need for social consensus on fair military service implementation. This is actually being interpreted as an open position.
It is noteworthy that BTS will be able to replace military service as an art sports agent close to military service exemption after receiving military service postponement last year.
