Kang Seung-sik, the husband of singer Yang Mi-kyung and a singer-songwriter and composer, passed away in the early hours of the 19th at the age of 72. It is reported that he died while battling sepsis caused by low blood pressure.
Born in 1954, Kang Seung-sik debuted as a singer-songwriter in 1974 with the song “One Day, Two Days, Three Days” and made a name for himself by composing hits such as “Let’s Dance” for singer Jang Eun-sook. In the mid-1980s, he founded Mono Planning and also worked as a producer.
After emigrating to the United States in 1992, the late Mr. Kang was diagnosed with stomach cancer and returned to Korea in 2003, where he battled the disease for approximately 20 years. His older sister is singer Seon Woo-jeong.
He is survived by his wife, Yang Mi-kyung, and three sons and one daughter. The funeral hall has been set up at Geumseong Funeral Home in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, and the funeral service is scheduled to be held at 9:00 a.m. on the 21st.
