DJ DOC's Lee Ha-Neul opened up about the financial difficulties and hardships he faced following his conflict with Kim Chang-yeol.
DJ DOC member Lee Ha-Neul opened up on his YouTube channel about the severe financial hardship he faced after his relationship with Kim Chang-yeol soured, which led to a loss of income from events. He revealed that he faced a major financial crisis due to the combined effects of his younger brother Lee Hyun-bae’s death and the COVID-19 pandemic, and that he had to cover monthly expenses of approximately 20 million won for three years due to issues such as having to repay advance payments received during his time with DJ DOC.
Lee Ha-Neul explained that the loss of income due to internal conflicts within the group was particularly painful, especially as his financial situation had already been strained by the liquidation of assets during his divorce proceedings. He detailed the hardships he endured during that time, including demands to return advance payments for concerts and having to cover even member Jeong Jae-yong’s share of the debt to survive for a year.
In the past, Lee Ha-Neul had claimed that the cause of her younger brother Lee Hyun-bae’s death was a conflict with Kim Chang-yeol, leading to a rift between them. Currently, Lee Ha-Neul is seeking a comeback by running a restaurant with DJ DOC member Jung Jae-yong.
Lee Ha-neul Discusses Financial Hardship Following DJ DOC Conflict
In a recent YouTube video, Lee Ha-neul revealed that he faced significant financial strain following his fallout with bandmate Kim Chang-yeol and the subsequent loss of DJ DOC performance opportunities. The situation was further compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to repay substantial performance advances, leading Lee to manage these debts while supporting his fellow member Jung Jae-yong.
Origins of the DJ DOC Internal Conflict
The public rift between Lee Ha-neul and Kim Chang-yeol stems from the 2021 death of Lee's brother, Lee Hyun-bae, a member of 45RPM. Lee Ha-neul has publicly alleged that a failed joint investment in a guesthouse contributed to the conflict, placing responsibility for his brother's circumstances on Kim Chang-yeol.
