"If I were president, there would be a re-election"... JK Kim Dong-wook, a Canadian citizen, takes a direct hit amid ballot shortage
Singer JK Kim Dong-wook publicly criticized the National Election Commission over the shortage of ballots during the June 3 local elections.
His remarks are interpreted as targeting the situation where ballot papers ran out in some regions, including Seoul, following the June 3 local elections.
He demanded an investigation by the National Election Commission, asking, “Is it really that difficult for the National Election Commission to investigate?” He continued, “You can do it, can’t you? Let’s handle this properly,” and argued, “If other countries see this, they’ll think South Korea is a developing nation. People aren’t swayed by propaganda like they used to. Let’s get this done quickly.”
Earlier, on the 3rd, JK Kim Dong-wook had also mentioned the same issue. He said, “I can’t even begin to imagine how those who went out to vote today and found themselves in such a dire and surreal situation must have felt,” adding, “The Republic of Korea that I know, and that we know, was not a country like this. "This is exactly what I mean by regression," he criticized. Regarding the National Election Commission’s apology, he remarked, "It’s beyond belief. It seems no one is willing to offer any explanation or take responsibility," adding, "The National Election Commission of South Korea should be subject to a special investigation."
According to the National Election Commission, as of 6:20 p.m. on the 3rd, a shortage of ballots occurred at a total of 14 polling stations, including 12 in Songpa-gu, one in Gangnam-gu, and one in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. The affected locations were distributed across Garak 2-dong, Jamsil 2-dong, Jamsil 4-dong, Jamsil 7-dong, and Munjeong 2-dong in Songpa-gu; Cheongdam-dong in Gangnam-gu; and Gui 3-dong in Gwangjin-gu.
Since former President Yoon Suk-yeol declared a state of emergency on the 12th and 3rd, he has consistently voiced his stance on political issues. Recently, during the controversy over Starbucks’ “May 18 Tank Day” marketing campaign, he stated, “If you want to go, go. The choice is yours.”
