Cha Jun-hwan (25) is set to star in a sitcom.
According to reports on the 7th, Cha Jun-hwan has been confirmed to star in tvN’s new sitcom, “Palace Land.”
In the series, Cha Jun-hwan plays Seong Dae-an, a character who appears hexagonal on the outside but is driven by survival on the inside—a charming yet flawed man who inexplicably captures women’s hearts. He’s a clueless fool who gets a big head just because of his good looks but can’t live up to his appearance. Suffering from a severe case of “face syndrome,” he frequently uses his looks as a weapon. With his affable and sly personality, he’s popular wherever he goes. He may seem lighthearted and childish, but deep down, he’s a typical “grown-up child.”
"Palace Land" is the story of people who look like royalty on the outside but are actually down-and-out on the inside—people who must endure madness behind the illusion. It is a sitcom that vividly and poignantly captures the daily lives of ordinary amusement park part-timers living in close quarters in a dormitory.
Cha Jun-hwan worked as a child actor before pursuing figure skating full-time, hoping it would help his acting. In 2006, he played the young version of Park Ki-woong in the MBC special drama "Miracle," and in 2008, he appeared in the drama "Every Night." He particularly made a name for himself with the public by playing the young version of Jung Il-woo in the 2009 drama "The Return of Iljimae."
Additionally, when asked on last year’s JTBC show “Knowing Bros” about his intention to return to acting after retirement, he said, “Since I switched careers after working as a child actor, I feel like there’s still a lot I haven’t done, so if I get the chance later, I’d like to try my hand at acting after I retire.”
"Palace Land" is the first sitcom tvN has produced in 12 years, following "Blue Tower Returns," which ended in 2014. It is directed by PD Yoo Hak-chan, who created the variety shows “The Romantic” and “Candy in My Ear,” as well as the dramas “The Nine-Tailed Fox” and “Top Star Yoo Baek-yi.”
