A stalker who broke into BTS member Jungkook’s home has been sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years.
A foreign defendant who repeatedly trespassed on and stalked the home of BTS member Jungkook has been sentenced by the court to one year in prison, suspended for two years. The agency, Big Hit Music, reaffirmed its stance that it will respond strongly with a zero-tolerance policy to any infringement of the artist’s rights.
The defendant was brought to trial on charges of visiting Jungkook’s home in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, multiple times since December of last year, ringing the doorbell, and trespassing onto the premises. The court handed down a suspended prison sentence to the defendant, and the agency warned that foreign offenders may face deportation and a ban on re-entry.
Big Hit Music emphasized that loitering near a residence or unilaterally delivering gifts are also clear criminal acts, and plans to continue taking strict measures against Stalking and invasions of privacy targeting its artists.
In addition, the agency is taking legal action against online trolls who have spread malicious falsehoods. A troll found guilty of defamation received a suspended prosecution conditional on completing an educational program, and the agency plans to hold such individuals legally accountable in the future without any compromise or leniency.
