Singer Lee Young-ji swaps red hair and clothes... for black hair during early voting, "apologizes for her frivolous behavior"
Singer Lee Young-ji became embroiled in a political color controversy when she posted a photo on social media (SNS) of herself wearing a red top and dyed her hair red during early voting for the June 3 local elections. She later deleted the post, dyed her hair black again a day later, and apologized in person.
"I think I surprised a lot of people by posting a story that was too untimely the day before," Lee said in an Instagram story on March 31, "Many people DMed me, so I quickly dyed my hair to try to make up for it, so I apologize for the delay in explaining it." He also shared a photo of his hair dyed back to black.
Earlier, Lee posted a photo of her hair dyed red on Instagram on March 30, the day early voting for the 6th and 3rd local elections began, wearing a red top and writing, "Your hair color is beautiful." The post was accompanied by the group Cortis' "REDRED" in the background. Later, she posted a short message to her fans and included a photo of herself in a red top.
Some online spaces pointed out that the red outfit and hair color could be associated with a political party in the run-up to the election. After deleting the post, Youngji issued a separate statement.
"Although I was clearly aware that this is an important time, my willingness to communicate seems to have been overshadowed by my hasty posting of recent photos," she said, adding, "I will not hide behind the cowardly excuse of ignorance, but will reflect and learn. I apologize for my rash behavior."
