Actor Son Seung-won Effectively Banned Permanently from Entertainment Industry After Being Caught Drunk driving for the Fifth Time
Actor Son Seung-won has been indicted on his fifth Drunk driving charge and the prosecution has requested a four-year prison sentence. With the revelation of habitual Drunk driving, obstruction of investigation, and driving without a license, his return to the entertainment industry has effectively become impossible.
During the final hearing held at the Seoul Western District Court on the 14th, the prosecution requested the court to sentence Son Seung-won to four years in prison. Son was arrested last November as a flagrant offender while driving against the flow of traffic while heavily intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 0.16%.
During the investigation, Son Seung-won is accused of obstructing the inquiry by making false statements claiming that a designated driver abandoned the car and by instructing his girlfriend to destroy dashcam evidence. In particular, it was additionally confirmed that he continued to drive without a license even after submitting a letter of apology to the court.
Son Seung-won was previously sentenced to one year and six months in prison in 2018 for a hit-and-run accident while intoxicated and driving without a license, under the Yoon Chang-ho Act. He, who was exempted from military service at the time due to a confirmed prison sentence, is now facing complete expulsion from the entertainment industry, including a ban on appearing on terrestrial broadcasting, as a result of this incident. The sentencing hearing for the first trial is scheduled for June 11.
