Walt Disney Pictures Plus has confirmed the launch of November. It is noteworthy how Disney+'s domestic landing, which already has more than 100 million paid subscribers, will change the OTT (online video Service) market.
Walt Disney Pictures announced in a conference call announcing its global 3Q earnings on March 13, "Disney + will launch its official Service in November Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan this year." In Japan, the company plans to expand its Service by adding general entertainment content in October.
Disney + is an OTT that Walt Disney Pictures introduced in 2019 in the US, Canada and the Netherlands. Walt Disney Pictures has competed with Netflix and Amazon Transformers: Prime Video, as well as various contents produced by Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, which are affiliated with Walt Disney Pictures original contents.
The results were successful: although it has not been launched in two years, the number of paid subscribers exceeded 13.6 million as of the second quarter of this year. This is an increase of 8.7 million compared to the previous quarter (94.9 million). As of July, the number of subscribers has increased further, and currently has 111.6 million subscribers.
It's still a shortfall compared to Amazon Transformers: Prime Video (200 million) and Netflix (29 million), but it's emerging as a strong counterweight as it is rapidly expanding the Service area.
Especially in the domestic OTT market, Netflix is soloing, so the emergence of Disney + is expected to make a big difference. Most of the domestic OTT users are Lee Yong on Netflix. Even in January alone, Netflix's MAU (Monthly Lee Yong embroidery) also recorded 899,785 people (based on the click of Nielsen Korea), more than the combined second-placed wave and third-placed teabing.
However, rapid growth is now slightly tilted. Netflix's MAU has been falling for three months, even in June, the number of people dropped by 152,787 to 8,083,501.
As Netflix is shaking so much, Disney +'s entry into the country is expected to cause a big Laurasia. Disney + has already introduced Marvel series 'Wanda Vision', 'Falcon and Winter Soldier', 'Rocky' and 'Wat If' to enthuse Marvel fans. In the future, 'Miss Marvel', 'Hawk Eye', 'Moon Knight' and 'Shihulk' will be introduced sequentially. It is noteworthy how Disney +, which will land in three months, will change the domestic OTT market.
