Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook without film, Cannes Film Festival failed to enter the competition. Hong Sangsoo and Han Jae-rim non-competition
The new film, directed by Hong Sangsoo and directed by Han Jae-rim, was officially invited to the Cannes International Film Festival, which will be held in Offline in two years. However, in the competition category that is eligible for the Palme d'Or award, it is regrettable that only one Korean movie is not selected.
"In front of your face," invited to the Cannes Premier section, the first section to be created this year, is the 26th feature film directed by Hong Sangsoo, a regular guest of the World 3 Film Festival (Kahn, Berlin, Venice), starring Actor Lee Hye-young. Hong's muse and lover Kim Min-hee, who has been in eight films since "It's Right Now and It's Wrong then" (2015), did not appear in this film but was named as the production director. Thierry Fremo, executive chairman, said, "I think he is a minimalist who makes personal films and is an inspiration to other filmmakers."
Hong was invited to the Film Festival for the first time in 1998 as the power of Gangwon Province, and was invited to the movie "In front of your face" 11 times. This is the official record of the Film Festival as the most Korean film director. In addition, Hong won the silver bear award at the 71st Berlin Film Festival in March for his entry into the competition with "Introduction", and Hong set a new record of attending two Film Festivals among the three World films in different films each year.
Invited to the Out Of Competition section, "The Emergency Declaration" is a new film directed by Han Jae-rim, who directed "The King" (2016), "The Coronation" (2013), "Elegant World" (2007), "The Purpose of Love" (2005), and depicts what happens with an airplane that declared an unconditional landing in the face of a catastrophic situation. It's a movie. It is a work that received attention from the casting stage early on with colorful starring characters such as Kang-Ho Song, Lee Byung-hun, Jeon Do-yeon, Kim Nam-gil, Im-wan, Kim So-jin and Park Hae-joon.
In particular, Kang-Ho Song, who enjoyed the glory of the Golden Palm Prize, which is the highest honor through "parasite" (2019), and "Jeon Do-yeon, the queen of Khan," who won the first Korean Actor award for "Milyang" (2007), will once again take the red carpet as an "emergency declaration."
"I think that Korean films are divided into writers' films, works dealing with history, and films with genres. Among them, 'Emergency Declaration' is a work of very genre. After the announcement of the Cannes Film Festival, Han Jae-rim said, "Now that I am experiencing a global difficulty due to Corona, I hope that everyone will be able to give hope and comfort to the 'emergency declaration'."
Two Korean films were decided to go to Cannes, but only one Korean movie was not invited to this year's competition. Following the "parasite" of Bong Joon-ho, who had been hot for World two years ago, he was expecting the second Bong Joon-ho director or the second parasite syndrome this year, but he was disappointed by the failure to enter the competition.
The new film 'Decision to Break', directed by the master Park Chan-wook, starring Tangway and Park Hae-il, was expected to be the most likely competition invitation for the Cannes Film Festival this year, but it was reported that the film did not appear at the Film Festival at all because the latter half of the film was not completed.
The Film Festival, which was held once in 1964 with the support of the French government to counter the Venice Film Festival, is the largest Film Festival in the World. It will be held every May, but it will be postponed for two months due to the influence of Corona 19 this year and will be held on July 6th to 17th Offline.
Last year, the Film Festival had to cancel the Offline opening 52 years after 1968, when the Pandemic, which shook the former World, canceled its opening in Paris in the May Revolution. He only released a list of 56 invited works under the name 'Kan 2020 Official Selection'. At that time, two Korean films were invited: "The Peninsula" (director Yeon Sang-ho) and "Heaven: To the Country of Happiness" (director Lim Sang-soo).
