"K-pop groups such as BTS, EXO are behind Protests."
The Chile Ministry of Interior recently published a 112-page The Report containing such content, causing controversy, the Chile media reported on the 22nd (local time).
K-pop is behind the social inequality protest Protests triggered by the Chile government's subway fare hike in mid-October.
In this report, the Chile Interior Ministry claimed that it was the result of analyzing 60 million big data written by 5 million users related to Protests on social media for a month after the Protests intensified.
The Report noted that 19.3% of Protests-related posts were produced outside of Chile, causing conflict outside the country, especially K-pop fans along with Russian broadcasters RT, Venezuelan broadcaster Telesur and Argentine leftists. Young Internet users have been actively participating in the early 4 million retweets of Protests, which are mainly analyzed as 'k pop fans'.
The opposition party is responding that the contents of The Report are absurd, saying that "the tax is misused" and "the tax is laughed at both domestically and abroad." K-pop fans are also posting mocking posts on social media.
According to the Chile Internet media ONTD, a K-pop fan tweeted sarcastically that "a famous K-pop band, Bolivarianos ringing socialism (BTS), is covering the Chile socialist group."
Another fan also pinched "(Chile's government's claim) will be a new logo for EXO's next comeback," while another mocked, saying "EXO will be in the first line in front of (Chile's) police." Chile's K-pop fans are continuing their protest on SNS with hashtags such as #kpop #bigdata.
