"My special brother" Lee Kwang-soo "I am happy if you like me, whether you are an Actor or an entertainer."
Lee Kwang-soo, who jumps around with a 190cm tall height on SBS Running Man'. The image of the entertainer is so strong, but the main business is Actor who has been Acting various characters. In the 2015 film Collective Invention, he appeared in a fish mask and became a fish man. In the works of Noh Hee-kyung, he played a young man with Tourette syndrome (SBS It's OK, I'm Love), Kim Hye-ja's youngest son (tvN 'Dee My Friends'), and the Earth Police (tvN 'Live'). Lee Kwang-soo added another character to his filmography through the film My Special Brother (director Yook Sang-hyo), which deals with disability with an unspecial perspective. He is a five-year-old man with intelligence. He does not want to act more because he is a person with disabilities, but focuses on the pure nature of Donggu. I met Lee Kwang-soo, who is waiting for the release of My Special Brother, on the 1st of next month with a calm heart despite the frenzy of Avengers: Endgame sweeping the theater.
10. "Running Man" made the image of the entertainer strong and worried when he first came to the area.
Lee Kwang-soo: Yes, but there was always such concern besides this work. It was worse for my special brother. I worry that my image will make the character a comic by my own existence. But I felt a lot and liked the scenario. I thought I could not change the thoughts around me from the past, but I started to appear because I thought that once I started to lock me up, I would never end.
10. What part of you is so greedy?
Lee Kwang-soo: The story of a “bloodless” brother, a story that was good and happy about friends and others, even if not really brothers or family. I wanted to solve things I did not know about developmental disabilities.
10. He said that he did not refer to the characters who had previously acted as developmental disabled persons.
Lee Kwang-soo: Yes, but the burden was great because there were real characters. I asked him to create new characters instead of being trapped in real characters.
10. Did you make itwith the most emphasis on what?
Lee Kwang-soo: It's a part that doesn't caricature disability, which, as a comedy film, may be a weakness but I think that's the strength of our film. I didn’t think I should over-act on the scene that seemed funny, either, and I kept talking to the director about the line between comedy and comics.
10. I saw an article in the movie Collective Invention that I was able to take another hand when I was holding a cup because I thought it would become more slippery when I was Acting a fish. I thought it was more detailedand more imaginative than I thought. I'm sure that Actor would havea special concern this time.
Lee Kwang-soo: Dongguan is good at Sooyoung, and I wanted Dongguan to get better and healthier once he was to be able to get Sooyoung back. (Laughing) I worked hard, and most of all, I wanted to look natural when I was pushing a wheelchair with my brother because he was a character who had been with Seha (Shin Ha-kyun) for 20 years. Somehow, there seemed to be some know-how of Donggu. I wanted to include details so that it would be very mechanical, really old, because it was a movie, but when I held my brother, I supported him with a knee in a specific motion, or every day. I wanted it to look like it was really old.
10. In the final scene, the breathing of three people, Dong-gu, Se-ha, and Mi-hyun (Iso-myeon), is also impressive.
Lee Kwang-soo: The only free-shot god in the entire movie, after a take, the director was satisfied with us and did not shoot any more. The three of them were breathing well after the second half of the film, with no rehearsals.
10. The experience of watching Shin Ha-kyun's Acting in the near future seems to have been special.
Lee Kwang-soo: I was also special for Acting because Ha Kyun liked his brother. However, there were many parts that I wanted to act while watching the natural appearance of the field outside of Acting, and I felt that I wanted to be a senior when I saw how to deal with my juniors. Ha-gyun tends to be a good friend. He gives me birthdays, texts to cheer me up. After a hard shoot, I buy you a drink.
10. What kind of scenes did you buy me a drink?
Lee Kwang-soo: There were so many scenes we were shooting together, so there were not many scenes we were shooting alone, but after that, I bought a drink. I went to the House of Responsibility (the space where Dong-gu and Seha live in the play) and there was a scene of crying, and after taking such a sad scene, my brother bought me a drink because he worked hard. Personally, it is the most memorable scene, and the scene of lying alone in bed and looking at the sky was saddened by the combination.
10. Acting and appearing in the arts for nine years. Is it hard to do it in parallel?
Lee Kwang-soo: I am grateful. I shoot every Monday, and it’s not hard to be a routine for too long. I think that I can do Interview here and that it is because of Running Man' that I continue to appear in the work including this work, so I try harder in the field.
10. Is there anything really bad about the image of an entertainer who has appeared in numerous works?
10. I think that I should be very careful about talking together.
Lee Kwang-soo: It becomes more and more so in life, wanting to make no mistakes and yes, trying to make sure the other person is not seriously hurt by small mistakes. I am more careful that there are people who think that I am really like that in Running Man'.
10. So, is this a very careful look?
Lee Kwang-soo: I don't think so, not this much ... there's a difference (laughing)
10. I wonder who the special brother is to Lee Kwang-soo than the movie.
Lee Kwang-soo: My brother...? (Laughs) Other than that, I rely a lot on my brother (Joe) personality. I ask when there is a big thing. Again, he shared my concerns. But he said he wanted to try.
10. What is your dream as an Actor?
Lee Kwang-soo: Not as an entertainer, but as an Actor or dream? I get a lot of questions like that, but what to say, I am good, grateful and happy now. I think it’s hard to keep this. The first thing I want to do is to keep my happiness apart from what I want to grow further with Acting.
10. The confrontation with the Avengers: Endgame is inevitable.
Lee Kwang-soo: I’ll see the Avengers, too. I like figures, so I’ve seen Infinity War and Captain Marvel. I don’t think we can both. (Laugh)
10. How do you want my special brother to reach the audience?
Lee Kwang-soo: I just wish I felt good, I hope everyone is happy for two hours.
