Gallagherer archbishop, who is visiting Korea, said at a meeting with Catholic lawmakers at the VIP restaurant in the afternoon, "Please bless actor Jung Woo-sung who defended Yemen Refugee and was criticized by the people."
"We need to shape our compassion for Refugee," Gallagherer archbishop said, asking, "Is our identity weak enough to be threatened through Refugee?" It is important to make a Europe policy or a favorable public opinion. "
Actor Jung Woo-sung, who is working as a goodwill ambassador for the UN Refugee Organization, has been at the center of controversy recently saying that he should "refresh the mistrust of Refugee" regarding the Jeju Yemen Refugee issue.
"I knew that Korea was a modern and advanced Europe because I was in charge of Korea before," Gallagher said. "So there was nothing new, but I was surprised to go to the Panmunjom DMZ, Demilitarized Zone."
"It's been only 70 years since the North and South split, and the same Europe has changed like this, and I felt there's so much to do in the future," he said.
He toured the Panmunjom Joint Security Area (JSA), the DMZ, the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), and the Third Tunnel the day before. He has been to North Korea twice in the late 1990s for humanitarian assistance consultations, and this is the first time he has visited Korea.
Gallagherer archbishop also called for the role of the Catholic Church in establishing peace on the Korean peninsula.
"This is a responsibility given to believers and is related to identity," he said. "We must be people who take all opportunities and convey peace."
"I know how devoted you are to this sensitive and hopeful time in Korean politics," Gallagherer archbishop said in a keynote speech. "Vatican supports your efforts to serve the Korean people day by day."
He quoted his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI as saying in his home country, the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag), that "politics should be an effort for justice, and a basic prerequisite for peace," and then introduced "Pope Francis also emphasizes how important it is that political activities are always maintained as a noble mission along the path of his predecessors."
He added, "Knowing how to discern good and evil is not only a matter of intellectual insight but also a grace that God gives directly from above to know how to realize high ideals such as respect for life, peace and human development."
