"I didn't have any reason to refuse because director Kim Jee-woon said he was going to do it," Gang Dong-Won explained why he joined the film during the opening interview of "Illang: The Wolf Brigade." Director Kim Jee-woon, who has made impressive footprints from comedy such as 'Quiet Family', 'Coming Out', 'Prey King', 'Three', 'Sweet Life', 'Good Bad Bad Bad Bad Guy', 'I Seed the Devil', 'The Age of Shadows' It is one of the people who gather their mouths to work.
It is the director's responsibility to find out a good actor who fits well with the movie with bright eyes and to form a team considering the overall harmony. In this 'Illang: The Wolf Brigade', director Kim Jee-woon completed a brilliant cast including Gang Dong-Won, Han Hyo-joo, Jung Woo-sung, Kim Moo Yeol, Yeri Han, Choi Min-ho. In addition, Park Byung-eun and Heo Joon-ho appeared in friendship and special appearances respectively.
On the 27th of last month, which was the third day of the opening of 'Illang: The Wolf Brigade', I met Kim Jee-woon director at a cafe in Palpan-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. I was able to hear various stories from the reason I gathered actors who were called 'Illang: The Wolf Brigade' to the message I wanted to convey, and what I wanted to achieve as a director in the future.
One after another.
Some people like it (Melo) and some people think it is different from their own thinking, saying, I don't know why the melody has been strengthened when I came to see SF Action. In the process of the main character (Zhang Zhongjing) thinking about individuals and even being aware of the words of individuals, Han Sang-woo (Kim Moo Yeol) goes through, and Yoon Hee Lee and Jang Jin-tae (Jung Woo-sung) go through. I think it is important to be related to Yoon Hee Lee, so there is a part that is concentrated on it. Han Sang-woo is defined as a villain, so you do not have to worry a lot, and Jang Jin-tae is a character who performs function so accurately, so I do not think he will ask many questions to him. But when Yoon Hee Lee and Zhang Zhongjing meet as individuals, I think what thoughts and questions might not have been projected there. Maybe that's why you saw the melodrama line highlighted. I thought each person (Han Sang-woo - Jang Jin-tae - Yoon Hee Lee) would give the same size of confusion to Lim and injure him.
I needed a metaphor to get through the clogged one. I thought it was the story. The railway, which was blocked when the protests against unification intensified, is smoothly pierced (later), and the dialogue between the two leaders is good. The drilling meant that he had fought hard on his problems and eventually achieved it, returning to the individual. In that sense, (the protagonist) had a harsh ordeal, so I wanted to give him a break with the Taiwan Taiyuan International Airport. In the previous work, after throwing a really harsh ordeal to the characters, there were many cases where the Taiwan Taiyuan International Airport was not given and the ending was also catastrophic. I didn’t want to do it this time, and I did it (‘Illang: The Wolf Brigade’) because I had a message of salvation.
When I first planned and wrote this scenario, Abe was in Japan and Xi Jinping in China. There was still Putin in Russia, United States of America had Trump... and some kind of blockade. The domestic society was also conservative and progressive, and I thought that the wall was divided into women and men. I thought that this modern World was World, which was blocked by the barrier. I wondered if the words of the individual were disappearing. I thought that the individual was disappearing, so I had to redefine the individual. I saw that it was a serious problem and a problem that forced me to do so and suppressed it and shrinked it. I thought I could move it to Zhang Zhongjing.
In the case of Jung Woo-sung, he had to come out of his character until now. It all came out, hit and emanated hot, and played a fairly emotional, pervasive and breakthrough role. I wanted to try the role of Jung Woo-sung, an actor, who does not move for the first time, but takes control of everything while revealing his presence. A cast that draws, takes control and directs all plans cold, strict and coolly, received Feelings that Mr. Jung Woo-sung was eating very well at his age. Like George Clooney of United States of America. Maybe it's time to show Jung Woo-sung's history, age, and profoundness. Then let me write it first! (Laughs)
Han Hyo-joo, as you know, is a good actor. He expresses the details well. In the melodramatic film, I mainly played a calm, innocent, neat, bright and clear female character, and I thought I would put a dark shade on it. I thought that it would be a strong female character. Hyo-joo also showed such a new appearance through the movie and played a more interesting performance. When you do acting alone, when you meet Zhang Zhongjing, when you meet Han Sang-woo, and when you meet Yeri Han, you have to show different aspects. The dilemma of Yon Hee Lee was so far from being able to break up, and he had to perform such a complex, multi-layered, divisive performance.
Kim Moo Yeol looked a little mean and looked good on the cold, sexy villain image. I thought that if I moved Kim Moo Yeol's Feelings to Han Sang-woo station, the details would be interesting characters. Yeri Han has never actually appeared in his previous work. I thought that if I direct the character with the appearances that are different from the one I have done a little bit before, I could show a funny performance.
Zhang Zhongjing of ‘Illang: The Wolf Brigade’ is Gang Dong-Won itself. He didn’t think of any other alternatives. When I made a cartoon film real, the actor who has no sense of heterogeneity and rejection is Gang Dong-Won. And here, what is so important is that after the prologue, the Silhouette comes out from the ruins. I needed a person who could show the spirit and atmosphere of the Silhouette. Who is the actor who can make the character's sad inner and true while acting beautiful and beautiful? All of them were possessed by Mr. Gang Dong-Won. Even the Feelings, which are wrapped in very transparent glass and are not easily accessible, would be good for expressing the Zhang Zhongjing. (Mr. Gang Dong-Won) had it all already, so he didn’t have to venture. It was a matter of raising and lowering the volume.
It's a distinction. Feelings? "Come and play" is a way. Special appearances are to be held accountable under a stronger direction. Both are actors I like. They are distinct in color. Heo Joon-ho tried to bring out the overwhelming charisma as much as possible. Park Byeong-eun seems to be an actor who shows the color of any given role, no matter what color. I tried to work together from 'The Age of Shadows', but Mr. Byeong-eun played a big role in 'Assassination'; it seemed difficult to come out in succession to similar movies. In 'Illang: The Wolf Brigade', there was no just falling role, so I got to appear in friendships - really salty. (Laughing)
I’ve been doing movies for twenty years and have been playing many genres, and when I look back on my past work, I’m Feelings, who’s been trying to do something. Maybe we should do something to get the results of what we’ve tried to do in a more complete state: horror, noir, comedy. In that sense, I want to complete the genres I have explored so far, for example, for trying a horror, I think it is necessary to prove that I was trying to make these results. The work ahead will be a 'step of responsibility and completion'.
