Taebaek city in Gangwon province, which has been carrying out various tourism projects as a filming site for KBS 2TV 'Dawn of the Sun', was troubled by the divorce of Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki.
"Dawn of the Sun" built and filmed the set in Taebaek in 2015, and after the filming, the set was demolished. As the drama, which was pre-produced, caused the syndrome after the broadcast, Taebaek city restored the set with 270 million won and opened in August 2016.
Also in May 2017, the company created a "Dawn of the Sun" at the entrance of the Taebaek set, with the Urk Cathedral, statues of Songsong (Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki) couples, and large Song Joong-ki military artifacts. It also held the Taebaek Couple Festival every summer and was scheduled for the third time this summer.
However, Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki announced their divorce after a year and eight months of marriage, and the existence of a large poster photo with various sculptures and two people together became blurred. "I'm having trouble with how to hold the Taebaek Couple Festival," a Taebaek city official told Yonhap News.
In particular, Taebaek city was reportedly promoting a new tourism project with a total cost of about 27 billion won around the 'Dawn of the Sun' and Taebaek Set.
