Actor Jung Woo-sung is continuing his Xiao Xin move regarding the Jeju Island Yemen Refugee issue. Jung Woo-sung appeared on the radio broadcast on the 5th, saying, "South Korea should share the issue of Refugee as a member of the international community and take it together."
Jung Woo-sung told CBS' Kim Hyun-jung's news show that "Refugee is not a problem of pros and cons," and that understanding of the difficulties that Refugee is experiencing should be preceded. "I fully understand the position of those who talk about Refugee in South Korea. "We have been in an unequal and unstable society so far," he said. "So I know that Refugee is difficult, but we have to solve our difficulties first."
Jung Woo-sung said, "South Korea has laws and systems, and it is necessary to examine them in the law and system. “We have signed the Refugee Agreement, which is a promise between countries,” he said. “(Refugee) is not the only one that we have received, but we should listen to the voices of concern in Korea and solve them while keeping our promise of internationalization.”
Asked whether it is realistically difficult to distinguish between fake Refugee and real Refugee, Jung Woo-sung said, "Fake documents can not exist. “It’s like ignoring South Korea’s laws and institutions,” he said. “If we don’t have legal knowledge, we need to get help from a lawyer, but if the person who wants to apply for Refugee doesn’t know the system, we have to ask for help from someone who knows,” Jung Woo-sung said. “If broker is willing to help between law and system and real Refugee, the Refugees will not suffer.” The person who came into Jeju Island through the broker meant that not everyone would be a 'fake' repugee.
Jung Woo-sung said, "In South Korea, Refugee seems to be our story, not the story of Refugee. “Our society was always unequal and unreasonable, and it was a society where wounds were not healed,” he said. “If we make these conflicts that our society has (through the Refugee controversy) a good opportunity to solve, we can be a more mature South Korea and a country that can take care of Refugee in the international community.” “It seems important to me how my generation speaks and behaves to create South Korea that will help the next generation,” he said. “The interest in Refugee is not just a warm-hearted story of helping people who are in need, but a statement of his opinion that he can voice his intention to eliminate this dispute.”
Jung Woo-sung has visited Refugee villages around the world several times since he visited Nepal in 2014 as an honorary ambassador to the UN Refugee Organization.
